Honourable Sheikh Imran Abdulla is the incumbent Minister of Home Affairs and was sworn into office on 17 November 2018. As the Minister for Home Affairs, Sheikh Imran Abdulla oversees three key government institutions; the Maldives Police Service, the Maldives Correctional Service and the Department of Juvenile Justice. Minister Imran Abdulla holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Islamic Sharia and a Master’s Degree in Comparative Law. Apart from his ministerial duties Minister Imran Abdulla serves as the President of Adhaalath Party – a member of the governing coalition of political parties. Prior to his political career, Hon. Sheikh Imran Abdulla spent six years in the educational sector, as a teacher for Islamic studies and a lecturer for Sharia and Law. Since 18 May 2021, Minister Imran Abdulla has presided as the President of the Local Government Authority’s board (LGA). The LGA was established under the Decentralization Act to regulate, oversee and develop the local governance system of the Maldives as envisioned in the constitution.
